The Score Sheet Tee (Chalk)
he back of this shirt is a real game.
Not a graphic of one. An actual score sheet, printed the way we print ours — the form in one ink, the handwriting in another — with four hands recorded in pen. Bid, books, running total, both sides. The two tallies add to thirteen every hand, because they always do.
Read down to hand three and you'll find a Boston. One side took all thirteen books, which means the other side took none, which means their bid is circled as a set. It's the only hand on the sheet that explains itself. Final was 288 to 120.
The front reads Learn to Play. Play to Win., split over US and DEM — the two teams at every table we've ever run. Never a Reneger. is stamped at the hem and runs down the left sleeve. Inside the neck, where a brand tag would go, there's the league instead.
Across the top, where our pad prints the date, this one prints how you turned up: learning, teaching, talking, listening, bluffing, winning — and love, light, nerve, jokes, patience, community. Two are circled in pen. One of them is learning, because at our table that's a thing you announce, not a thing you hide.
